Arsenal linked to Amadou Diawara, a Roma player, as Lucas Torreira hinted to leave Gunners

Arsenal allegedly eyes Amadou Diawara of Roma as a potential backup for Lucas Torreira.

After struggling to cement a place on the side of Mikel Arteta, Torreira was linked to a move away from the Emirates.

The 24-year-old also admitted that he would support any attempt to sell him to the Uruguay press in comments.

He told Sport 890: “I need to think very carefully about my future today.

“I have a club deal and I will honor that, clearly if I have to leave it is going to be for the best.

“We need to stay calm and wait.”

As Arteta continues to rebuild his team, Torreira has been linked with Milan and Turino.

Arsenal had signed him for £26million from Sampdoria just two seasons ago.

He featured regularly under Unai Emery but was mostly used as a replacement under the current boss.

TuttoMercatoWeb, an Italian website, reports that Arsenal will recycle any funds it raises by selling the midfielder, with Diawara listed as a potential substitute.

The article says the Gunners for Guinea International have ‘tested the seas,’ but the club ‘s goal will be to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new contract and secure Willian ‘s arrival on a free transfer from Chelsea.
