According to Football Source, Aston Villa has made a breakthrough in negotiations with Brentford over signing Ollie Watkins. The Premier League club has told the Bees they are willing to spend more than £ 20 million to sign the 24-year-old who can play either as a forward or as a midfielder attacker.
Having worked with Villans’ boss Dean Smith at Brentford, Watkins himself is keen on a move to Villa. Villa is willing to offer a five-year deal to the 24-year-old and more than triple his current Bees salary.
According to WhoScored, the Englishman scored 26 goals and provided three assists for Brentford in 49 Championship matches last season as the Bees reached the playoff final. Watkins made 35 starts and six league substitute appearances for the London club during the 2018-19 season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in the process, WhoScored says.
