Chelsea want to sign goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Ross Barkley could be sold

With the addition of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Chelsea is expected to push their summer spending up to the £250million mark.

TalkSPORT understands that the £18million deal between the two clubs is drawing closer after the French side declined the Blues’ latest bid worth £14m.
Last year, Mendy just joined Stade Reims’ Rennes for £3.5m but the 28-year-old has already made a major impact on the club.

The upcoming move will spark further uncertainty about the long-term future for Kepa Arrizabalaga at Stamford Bridge.

Kepa, 25, was dropped twice last term by Frank Lampard after he committed numerous high-profile mistakes during the campaign.

He told Sport.CZ: “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.

“But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

However, it is understood that the Spaniard will probably stay at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming campaign as he looks to win over Lampard and his coaching team, a club recording £71.6million signing from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
Petr Cech, technical and performance advisor to Chelsea, admitted that the club could bring in a new goalkeeper, but insists that they don’t give up on Kepa.
Meanwhile it is understood that by selling Ross Barkley, Chelsea could recover some funds.

In what was a busy summer in West London, the Blues have already brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr.
