Ciro Immobile bags European Golden Boot and puts an end to Ronaldo and Messi dominance

Last updated on August 5, 2020

The Lazio striker has been in great goal-scoring form this season. First, it was Luka Modric, who halted the stretch of both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Ballon d’Or race by winning the prestigious award in 2018, now Immobile is the new man in the block.

The 30-year-old scored on the final day as his side ended fourth in Napoli ‘s 3-1 loss at Lazio.

From near range, Fabian Ruiz brought Napoli ahead of Immobile.

The penalty of Lorenzo Insigne and the late goal of Matteo Politano were enough to win on Gennaro Gattuso ‘s side. Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo was the second highest scorer in Serie A with 31 goals, with Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku on the 23rd.

The European Golden Shoe honors the highest scorer in any European top-flight, with criteria weighted by league standard.

Immobile achieved two goals clear from Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, with Ronaldo sixth.
