Lille has signed Jonathan David for €30m from Gent

Lille has signed a record €30 million contract with striker Jonathan David from Gent to further improve their attacking options after losing Victor Osimhen to Napoli.

Osimhen, who scored 13 Ligue 1 goals last season, joined the Partenopei in a contract that could potentially be worth € 54 million at the end of July.

Although Lille moved swiftly to bring forward Burak Yilmaz to veteran Turkey, a large chunk of the Osimhen fee was used to hire David from Canada.

In all competitions David scored an impressive 37 goals in 83 games for Gent, having made his debut in August 2018.

The American-born front man also has an impressive international strike rate, netting up for Canada 11 times in 12 senior matches.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal in Lille and will wear the number nine shirt that had previously belonged to Loic Remy, who in recent weeks is said to have failed a Benevento medical.
