When they face Ajax on Wednesday night, Liverpool will be looking to put the disappointment of losing Virgil van Dijk to a long-term injury behind them.
Last season, these two teams both finished top of their respective leagues, but Ajax were not crowned Eredivisie champions because without promotion, relegation or winners, the competition was officially finished early.
At the weekend, the Reds drew in the Merseyside derby and are currently without a number of key players, but are predicted to be among the favorites as the Champions League advances.
So far this term, Ajax have won four of their five league matches, including a 5-1 win over Heerenveen at the weekend.
When’s that match?
The game kicks off on Wednesday , October 21st at 8 pm.
What is the news about the team?
The Dutch side should have a squad to pick from that is almost completely fit and could make a few changes from the weekend game, but Antony is out forwards.
Liverpool, as well as goalkeeper Alisson, are missing the aforementioned Van Dijk, new midfielder Thiago Alcantara, center-back Joel Matip and left-back Kostas Tsimikas. The longer-term absentee is also Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. After missing the weekend game, Naby Keita should be in the squad, though.
Ajax: Onana; Mazraoui, Schuurs, Blind, Tagliafico; Neres, Kudus, Tadic; Alvarez, Gravenberch; Labyad.
Liverpool: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Fabinho, Robertson; Salah, Firmino, Mane; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Keita.
