Earlier today Manchester United lost Premier League opener 3-1 to Crystal Palace and former player Teddy Sheringham thinks the Red Devils need to invest in a quality striker.
He said that, with Anthony Martial as their number nine, Manchester United would not win the trophy.
The 24-year-old Frenchman was excellent last season for United and the judgment by Sheringham seems a little harsh. Martial has the potential to grow into a striker of the highest order and is still very young.
If he can continue to improve, he will undoubtedly quickly become one of the league’s best strikers. Martial has scored 23 goals in all last season’s competitions.
If Solskjaer will strengthen his squad before the window closes will be fascinating to see. So far, the Red Devils have signed Donny van de Beek and they have been linked with Jadon Sancho and Alex Telles as well.
Speaking to the Mirror, Sheringham said: “Manchester United won’t win the title with Anthony Martial as their number nine. When you’re playing at a club like that, scoring 20 goals in a season is good, but you’re looking at a 30-35-goal man to be the icing on the cake. Will he be that man? I’m not so sure.”
