Man Utd’s Maguire shares true version of event after Greek trial

Harry Maguire says he is pleased to have been able to “share the true version of events” regarding the incident in Mykonos last week which led to his conviction of assault and corruption.

The 27-year-old defender of Manchester United and England was found guilty by a Greek court on Tuesday and handed down a 21-month suspended jail term but subsequently lodged an appeal that nullifies the conviction and means that Maguire has no criminal record until a complete retrial.

He spoke about the incident to the BBC on Thursday, saying he was “scared for his life” and worried that he and his family and friends were being abducted.

Which led to a cutting response from the prosecution’s lawyer.

Thanks for everyone’s support over the last week, I’m pleased to have had my say and share the true version of events. Looking forward to getting on with life now and the season ahead with @ManUtd and @England.
