Petr Cech named in Chelsea squad for this 20/21 Premier League

For the 2020/21 season, Petr Cech was unexpectedly included in Chelsea’s official Premier League squad.

The 38-year-old keeper, after spending more than a decade at Stamford Bridge, last played for the Blues back in 2015.

Before retiring from football, he then moved to London rivals Arsenal to pursue a career in ice hockey.
Cech has made a return to the team, according to the Chelsea FC release, and will be qualified to play in Prem matches this season.

The squad included the former Czech Republic international as ’emergency goalkeeper cover’. The club notes that, owing to the extraordinary circumstances created by the coronavirus outbreak, Cech is concerned.

A non-contract based relationship with Chelsea will reportedly be taken up by the player.
The news comes as a shock after Chelsea spent £ 22 million recently to sign Rennes’ French keeper Edouard Mendy.
Also in his team, Frank Lampard has Spanish international Kepa Arrizabalaga and veteran Willy Caballero to choose from.

Cech returned to Chelsea in June 2019 to work as a technical coach with Lampard and his staff. It remains to be seen whether he will make many appearances for the club this campaign, although anything could happen with the current form of Arrizabalaga.

Cech’s involvement means midfielder Danny Drinkwater misses out on a place in the squad. The former Leicester player could now seek a loan move away from Chelsea after seeing his first team opportunities reduced.

Cech made almost 500 appearances for Chelsea during his spell there. He helped the club to win numerous trophies during his time as number one, including four Prem titles, four FA Cups and one Champions League.

He also won another FA Cup while playing for Arsenal.

In the age of modern football, Cech is seen as one of the most talented goalkeepers. He was made a Premier legend by his remarkable agility and command of his box.
