When they face each other at St. James’ Park, Newcastle United and Manchester United will return to action in the Premier League this weekend. The match is scheduled to kick off on Saturday at 8 pm, and it promises to be an interesting football game.
Newcastle have made a strong start to their Premier League campaign for 2020-21 and are ninth out of four matches in the table with seven points. Before the two-week international break, the Magpies won 3-1 against Burnley at home in the league and will be looking for maximum points against the Red Devils.
After finishing 13th in 2019-20, Steve Bruce’s side will try to push for the top 10 in the Premier League table this season. It won’t be easy, but a win at home against United will improve their chances and increase their confidence in doing just that.
For Newcastle, Jamal Lewis is fit and could start, while returns are approaching for Matty Longstaff, Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett. Number one goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, however, is out injured and is unlikely to play until December.
Predicted lineup: Darlow; Manquillo, Hayden, Lascelles, Fernandez, Lewis; Saint-Maximin, Shelvey, Hendrick, Joelinton; Wilson
Manchester United have made a poor start to their bid for the 2020-21 Premier League and are still struggling. At the moment, the Red Devils are only two positions above the bottom three with just three points from three games. In their opening Premier League game of the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, and while they won 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion next, they were hammered 6-1 at Old Trafford in the league by Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
The signs are not looking great at the moment, but it’s very early days, and United needs to bounce back and start winning matches. In the second half of last season, with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba displaying their class, the Red Devils were brilliant and United would need both of them to be at their best in the coming weeks.
Anthony Martial is suspended for United and won’t be included. During international duty, England international central defender Harry Maguire picked up an injury and is doubtful. This weekend, United fans won’t see Edinson Cavani in action as he is in quarantine following his move from France to England, but Alex Telles could make his debut and Donny van de Beek could make his first Premier League appearance.
Predicted lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Pogba, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Ighalo
