Wolves have signed Barcelona’s right back Nelson Semedo. Nuno Espirito Santo wanted a substitute for Matt Doherty, who was sold by the club earlier this summer to Tottenham.

A Barcelona statement read: “FC Barcelona and Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Nélson Semedo. The English team will pay FC Barcelona 30 million euros plus 10 in variables.

“FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Semedo for his commitment and dedication and wishes him good luck and success in the future.”

Right-back Semedo signed from Benfica for Barca in 2017 and made 124 appearances for the Spanish side, winning two titles in LaLiga and the Copa Del Rey.
The 26-year-old is an international from Portugal and was lucky enough to play alongside both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Therefore, coming up against those two in training should mean that he will be more than ready for the finest attackers in the Premier League.

In order to collect transfer funds to land his goals, New Barca boss Ronaldo Koeman agreed to let Semedo depart.

The Wolves manager urged the fans to trust his methods and said that a ‘new challenge is ahead’.

”I am confident that we will. But it’s not about what we did before,” he said.

“These three seasons we created an identity, we created a way of how we play and how we operate as a group, and we have to maintain these high standards that we have because a new challenge and a new cycle is ahead of us.

“Things will be much more difficult than before because all the teams are improving and we have to follow up and keep on going.”
