Zappacosta from Chelsea and Pjaca from Juve joins Genoa on loan

Davide Zappacosta and Marko Pjaca have respectively joined Genoa on loan from Chelsea and Juventus.

Zappacosta, 28, spent the last term with Roma in Series A but only made nine appearances in the season, sustaining a torn anterior cruciate injury while in the capital.

The right-back joined the Blues in 2017, but he’d won only one Premier League start in his second term, having played frequently during his debut campaign.

Following the rise of Reece James, he seems to have dropped down the pecking order under Frank Lampard, but is under contract until 2022.

Winger Pjaca, 25, has been at Juventus since 2016 following his Dinamo Zagreb ‘s signing of a five-year contract.

The Croatian has, however, struggled to establish himself in the first team of the Bianconeri – with whom he last played a Serie A game in March 2017 – and his spell at Genoa will be his latest loan away from the club after stints with Schalke, Fiorentina and Anderlecht.

Genoa, who finished 17th in Serie A last season and narrowly avoided relegation, will start the new campaign on Sunday at home to Crotone.
